About The Position

Yazoo Valley Electric Power Association is seeking a qualified Substation Engineer to assist with the planning, design, coordination, maintenance support, and long-term reliability of the Association’s substations and electrical infrastructure. Responsibilities include substation design and upgrades, system planning, protective relay coordination, troubleshooting electrical system issues, load and power studies, project coordination, contractor oversight, and supporting overall system reliability and operations.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical documents, electrical schematics, safety manuals, and other job-related materials
Ability to prepare reports and communicate technical information effectively
Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with employees, contractors, vendors, consultants, management, and member-consumers
Ability to apply engineering and mathematical concepts related to electrical systems, system planning, troubleshooting, and problem-solving
Ability to analyze technical data and make sound decisions
Valid driver’s license required
Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, and operate office equipment
Frequently required to walk on uneven terrain, inspect substations, bend, and climb stairs
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
Must be able to safely work around energized electrical equipment and in varying outdoor conditions as needed
