About The Position

As a Cognizant System Engineer/Technical Authority for assigned systems, you will work closely with operations and maintenance to ensure assigned equipment and systems operate safely and reliably to meet Mission deliverables. You will work with the Design Authority Representative and the Configuration Management organization to maintain configuration control and compliance to site standards, applicable codes and DOE orders. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Maintain system availability to meet mission deliverables as the Technical Point of Contact with Equipment Owner and skilled labor. Maintain the Configuration Management program for your assigned equipment. Develop long term equipment health strategies with Equipment Owner and Reliability Engineering. Develop a working knowledge of the facility’s operation and the existing condition of the assigned system. Ensuring documents related to the system are complete, accurate, and up-to-date, including SDDs, technical drawings, diagrams, and procedures for surveillance, testing, and maintenance. Involvement in the design, review, and approval of changes affecting/impacting system design, operation, and maintenance. Interface with Projects for new equipment installations and similar projects. Continuously evaluating systems for improvement opportunities.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET AND.
• OR MS in Engineering/Physical science.
• OR PhD in Engineering/Physical science.
• 3.0/4.0 minimum cumulative GPA for Bachelor degree
• 3.3 minimum cumulative GPA for Master degree
• 3.5 minimum cumulative GPA for PhD
• In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major, 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact across multiple organizations and various job levels ranging from upper management to skilled labor.
• Adapting quickly to changing field conditions and/or plant wide priorities.
• Ability to balance multiple assignments of various size and complexity.
• Leading change and improvement initiatives.
• Broad based understanding of operation and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, chemical and/or computer equipment in a manufacturing environment.
• Reference DOE Order 420.1C Facility Safety, Chapter V. Cognizant System Engineer Program
• Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.
• The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
• Position may require entry into Materials Access Areas (MAA) and participation in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
• If HRP is required, candidate must complete a counterintelligence-scope polygraph, pursuant to 10CFR 709.

• Typical experience could range from two to fifteen plus years.
• Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Experience with engineering design criteria and standards.
• Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.
• Understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, and Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.
• The ability to evaluate and provide feedback on new and proposed revisions to technical operating procedures, design drawings and requirements, and facility systems, structures, and components.
• Able to make informed decisions and support those decisions to peers and senior management.
