System Engineer

VITAS HealthcareMiramar, FL

About The Position

The System Engineer is responsible for assessing systems, determining problems, providing solutions to issues that arise, designing systems, upgrading systems, maintaining systems, and brainstorming possible improvements that can be made to a system in the future. This role involves engaging in project-related tasks assisting with system design and architecture, system resiliency, and scalability while maintaining ease of maintenance and low complexity. The position requires VMWare stack maintenance and project support for VITAS IT initiatives and operations. The engineer will have direct responsibility to monitor and respond to performance events (downtime, degradation, optimization, etc.) of virtual machines, containers, and underlying hardware. They will also be responsible for maintaining (adding/removing/editing) virtual machines, container clusters, and container services. A key aspect of the role is reviewing security events related to data-center services and engaging with the security team when action is needed. Management of resources related to virtual storage, secondary storage, data replication services, and backups is also required. The role involves creating AD-related PowerShell and Linux shell scripts to assist other teams and, when needed, creating API-based automation scripts to reduce repetitive system administration work. Assistance in the operation, maintenance, and administration of Kubernetes clusters and Microsoft Cloud Administration (M365 and Azure) is expected. The engineer is responsible for maintaining server OS Windows updates via an automation tool (Ivanti preferred) and reviewing, responding, or escalating actionable log events from data-center servers to prevent downtime. Collaboration with IT team members, vendors, management, and other supporting staff is crucial during system creation, maintenance, and project execution. The role includes creating control features to ensure systems meet quality standards and engaging in quality control procedures to ensure efficiency and operational status. Developing cost-efficient systems through cost-benefit analysis is also part of the responsibilities. This position description outlines primary duties, but employees may be required to perform other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management.
