About The Position

Electrical System Engineering position with experience developing and writing task assignments for facility power distribution systems (up to 13.8 KV) at the Kennedy Space Center. The position will be to oversee Mission Support planning and coordination; equipment Operations and Maintenance; electrical project planning; facility power system design changes, and mission test procedure development. The individual will be responsible for Medium Voltage systems, power distribution systems, and work with technical craft labor to maintain the overall health of assigned systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering.
  • 5+ years’ experience in engineering discipline as identified in purpose & scope.
  • Experience with Medium Voltage System; Transformers, Switchgears, Medium Voltage Cables, Vacuum Fault Interrupters (VFI), ----etc.
  • Experience with PMs for the above equipment.
  • Experience with Medium Voltage Protective Relays & Coordination studies.
  • Electrical Engineering Degree from US if possible.
  • Experience with Uninterruptable Power Supplies(UPS units) maintenance & troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Generator systems maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Strong communications and analytical skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret multi-discipline Engineering drawings.
  • Working knowledge of industry electrical codes and standards, operation and maintenance of power distribution systems, and interior/exterior lighting.
  • Ability to understand different electrical schematics.
  • Understanding root cause analysis for electrical faults & troubleshooting and providing corrective & preventative actions to avoid future problems.
  • Flexible & adapt quickly to new environment.
  • Capable of developing skills independently.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen and able to obtain and maintain required clearances/badges as required by program and position
  • Must have the ability to communicate in English, both verbal and written in an effective manner.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Low Voltage switchgear maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Some experience with Low Voltage Circuit Breakers

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of electrical system protective relaying, Motor Controls, Switchgear operation and design, Power Transformers, Emergency Generators, Photovoltaic systems, UPS/Battery systems, VFD's, Lightning Protection, Grounding and Bonding, Power system controls to include SCADA systems and power system PLC control Logic, LED and Traditional Lighting design.
  • Perform senior level range of facility electrical distribution system troubleshooting, design, and development of tasks in specific areas with minimal review and oversight.
  • Adhere to of safety working practices for electrical systems to include NFPA 70E, “Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace”, OSHA, NFPA 497, “Recommended Practice for the Classification of Flammable Liquids, Gases, or Vapors and of Hazardous (Classified) Locations for Electrical Installations in Chemical Process Areas”.
  • Be able to interpret and provide guidance for power system single line and schematic electrical drawings.
  • Interpret and provide guidance to Arc Flash analysis documents to determine hazard levels for shop personnel.
  • Develop and maintain job plans and PMs for assigned equipment.
  • Address and justify preventive maintenance deferrals of assigned equipment.
  • Conduct site visits to investigate system problems, propose solutions and provide recommendations to restore systems.
  • Support shop technicians in troubleshooting issues related to assigned equipment as needed.
  • Provide technical expertise for technical anomalies as they arise.
  • Resolve and document failure anomalies regarding assigned equipment.
  • Coordinate NASA and customer related mission activities to support the EGS customer launch schedule to include launch site test plan development and coordination with EGS Solumina documents, mission support training certifications and Launch Control Center console test support certifications.
  • Participate in console operation during test and launch operations as needed for assigned systems supporting launch and processing facilities and as necessary for other Spaceport Users test and launch operations were assigned systems/equipment are required to support.
  • Perform readiness assessments of assigned equipment and systems.
  • Support development of technical proposals, statements of work and/or provide comments on the technical content and level of effort of the proposed scope of work.
  • Coordinate and communicate effectively with CAD drafters, Design Engineers, or shop personnel by written or verbal means.
  • Interpret and provide guidance for assigned equipment using single line and schematic drawings.
  • Develop, maintain and produce technical documentation and system/subsystem specifications.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
