System Engineer III, Firewalls - Network Infrastructure and Security Engineering/Information Solutions
About The Position
The System Engineer III, Firewalls, reports to the Manager, Network Infrastructure and Security Engineering in support of MUSC’s academic, research and healthcare missions. This position serves as a subject matter expert for network security services, evaluates and resolves complex technical issues and demonstrates strong analytical and communication skills to maximize the benefit of services the team provides for Information Solutions. The role involves generating appropriate documentation, communications, processes, and educational plans to identify and remove obstacles to, and mitigate the disruption of change related to the design, management, implementation, and operations of the network. The position is responsible for the timely resolution of network issues, takes a lead role in projects, and participates in team and project meetings, providing input on solutions to improve efficiency. Additionally, the role includes coaching and transferring knowledge to peers and staff, maintaining high professional standards, and exhibiting excellent customer service skills.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree and five years directly related experience; or a high school diploma and nine years directly related experience; or a Masters’ degree and 3 years directly related experience required.
- Experience in implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network security devices, including: firewalls, network access control, and monitoring applications.
- Knowledge of communication or information systems.
- Knowledge and technical expertise in networking protocols, security, and wireless communications.
- Strong interpersonal, project management, analytical and communication skills.
