About The Position

Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity. We are looking for a hands-on System Development Engineer to develop mechatronics and software tools for mechanical testing of flight hardware. This is a fast-paced, intellectually challenging opportunity to work with thought leaders in multiple technology areas. You’ll have relentlessly high standards for yourself and everyone you work with, and you’ll be constantly looking for ways to improve your product’s performance, quality, and reliability.

Requirements

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust
  • 2+ years of experience developing test infrastructure to meet the needs of testing space craft or similarly complex systems.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience programming industrial controllers (PLC, CNC, etc.)
  • Experience with hands-on hardware development and testing.
  • Familiarity with hardware testing systems (Dewesoft, LabVIEW etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Analyze hardware requirements to design, develop, and maintain test automation software and data infrastructure used in satellite development and qualification.
  • Integrate mechanical components, automation controls, electronics, sensors, and software systems to aid in the delivery of hardware test and development solutions (mechanical and mechatronics focus).
  • Design, write, and deploy software solutions that automate test execution and the post processing of complex data to determine viability of flight hardware. Build modular systems that enable faster deployments and more robust operation.
  • Build production test systems that run consistently and handle errors gracefully. Push testing earlier in the process and chase down root cause of problems to prevent recurring issues.
  • Lead and participate in design reviews, and risk assessments, to contribute to the continuous improvement of satellite hardware performance. Work concurrently with the design engineers to provide design for testability (DFT) feedback throughout the design process.

Benefits

  • health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage)
  • 401(k) matching
