About The Position

As a member of the Design team, the System Design Specialist provides technical expertise for designing and installing security, video, access control, and fire alarm systems. The role supports and coaches junior team members and provides technical support for national account customers on site-level construction projects and larger national rollouts. It is an experienced position intended to provide broad experience and training in electronic security system design. The specialist works closely with clients, internal sales, project teams, and technical support teams to create designs that meet client needs. The role produces associated documentation, including material and labor estimates, product sourcing, designed plans, and technical wiring diagrams, to support project delivery.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 3 years of previous field experience or engineering and design experience.
Advanced working knowledge of burglar alarm, fire alarm, video surveillance, and access control systems.
Experience supporting all phases of project design and implementation, including field technicians, customer communications, and end-user training and troubleshooting.
High proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and network topology.
Ability to research and interpret requirements related to the design and installation of security, CCTV, access, and network systems and components.
Ability to multitask, manage multiple projects, and meet deliverables and customer deadlines.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with internal and external customers and management.
Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and with personnel across multiple departments.
Formal technical training or equivalent work experience, with the technical skills needed to provide project assistance and support.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree.
Experience with BlueBeam, Microsoft Dynamics 365, and CCTV DVR software.
NICET and other technical certifications validating proficiency and experience in life safety system design and installation, including knowledge of fire alarm, burglar alarm, CCTV, and access control products.

Responsibilities

Design and implement systems based on customer requirements, selecting parts and components, establishing quantities, researching parts, and accounting for design criteria.
Use AutoCAD, BlueBeam, Visio, PDF, and other design tools to create video, security, access, and integrated security solutions.
Interpret plans and develop solutions to protect the relevant sites or facilities.
Determine wire and power requirements, network configurations, and mounting specifications.
Provide technical details to support the creation of installation guides, technical bulletins, and other materials.
Provide customers with technical and design recommendations based on assessed needs.
Compile and document programming guides, installation guidelines, wiring diagrams, programming details, and user training guides for project and technical teams and subcontractors.
Develop system panel programs using appropriate manufacturer programming software and ensure customer and company requirements are met.
Complete special assignments or projects as directed.
Generate quotes from designs using D365 and Experlogix, approved equipment, labor estimates, and compatibility and profitability considerations.
Establish and document project scopes of work for the installation of burglar alarm, fire alarm, video, access control, and other required technologies.
Create and use equipment templates to promote uniformity and consistency in future projects.
Support and coach junior team members and provide technical support to national account customers and project teams.
