About The Position

DecisionPoint seeks a System Architect to design and oversee enterprise application, mobile application, website, and tool architectures within AWS GovCloud in support of a large federal and DoD-aligned IT mission environment. This role develops scalable, secure, and maintainable architectures that align with mission requirements, cloud best practices, and DoD cybersecurity standards. The System Architect collaborates closely with developers, cloud engineers, cybersecurity teams, and product leadership to define technical direction, validate designs, guide implementation, and ensure alignment with long-term modernization goals. This position is fully remote.

Requirements

  • Must hold an active Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 3 background investigation.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in system architecture, enterprise application design, or software engineering.
  • Experience architecting cloud-based applications using AWS or similar platforms.
  • Experience supporting enterprise or federal application ecosystems.
  • Experience designing APIs, integrations, data flows, and system communication patterns.
  • Experience performing architectural reviews, risk assessments, and modernization planning.
  • Strong understanding of AWS GovCloud architecture, cloud networking, IAM, security patterns, and cloud services.
  • Knowledge of enterprise application architecture including microservices, APIs, and web application frameworks.
  • Familiarity with mobile application architectures and backend integration strategies.
  • Experience with secure coding principles and DoD cybersecurity requirements.
  • Understanding of CI/CD, DevSecOps practices, and automated deployment pipelines.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • Strong architectural design and systems thinking capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to produce clear technical documentation and diagrams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to guide development teams and enforce architectural standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with serverless architectures and container orchestration.
  • Familiarity with modern frontend frameworks and mobile app development stacks.
  • Experience designing architectures for IL5 or other high-security environments.
  • AWS Solutions Architect (Associate or Professional) certification.
  • CISSP or CCSP certification.
  • ITIL v4 Foundation certification.

Responsibilities

  • Architect enterprise applications, mobile apps, websites, and backend systems deployed within AWS GovCloud.
  • Define system architecture blueprints, integration patterns, data flows, and service interaction models.
  • Lead cloud architecture decisions including VPC configurations, security boundaries, and cloud-native service usage.
  • Provide technical oversight for development teams to ensure architectural compliance.
  • Design secure API integrations, identity and access flows, and cross-system data exchanges.
  • Ensure architectures meet performance, scalability, availability, and reliability requirements.
  • Develop migration paths, modernization strategies, and technical roadmaps for legacy systems.
  • Conduct design reviews, security evaluations, and architectural assessments.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure alignment with DoD security controls and hardening requirements.
  • Work with database and DevSecOps teams on service orchestration, automation, CI/CD pipelines, and deployment patterns.
  • Produce detailed architectural artifacts such as diagrams, specifications, patterns, and system documentation.
  • Troubleshoot complex architectural issues and guide resolution strategies.
