About The Position

Casual Sports Official positions are available for the Sunnyvale Youth Basketball League. This program serves kindergarten through eighth-grade boys and girls. Basketball league games begin on Saturday, January 16, and end on Saturday, March 6; shifts are available between 7:15 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at various Sunnyvale school facilities. Training dates are January 2nd and 9th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; attendance is required. The program is a non-competitive league that encourages everyone to play and learn the game. The primary assignment for this position is for the seasonal Sunnyvale Youth Basketball League (SYBL). This position will be mainly based in the Recreation Building on the Community Center Campus, in the Recreation Services Division of the Department of Library and Recreation Services. Travel to other locations within Sunnyvale will be required.

Requirements

• Minimum age is 16 years old
• At least some experience/knowledge from participating in recreation programs or other community-based service.
• Ability to work with and effectively communicate with parents and coaches is highly desirable.
• Learn policies and regulations related to assigned program areas.
• Willingness to work irregular hours or shifts, and on nights, weekends, or holidays when needed.
• Possession and continued maintenance of a valid class C CA driver's license and a safe driving record OR the ability to supply alternate transportation as approved by the appointing authority.

• Experience or past participation in one or more of the following specialty areas: Arts, Customer and Business Services, Special Populations, Seniors and Therapeutics, Sports and Aquatics, and/or Youth and Teen Services.

Responsibilities

• Basic knowledge of high school basketball rules and understanding of skills necessary to play basketball.
• Can officiate while instructing players on basketball skills and game rules.
• Assist with scorekeeping.
• Interact and communicate effectively with children, parents, coaches and City staff
• Ensure the safety and well-being of program participants
