About The Position

The Switcher Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and executing the safe and efficient movement of trailers, equipment, and materials throughout the facility and designated yard locations. This role involves operating yard trucks, switcher vehicles, and material handling equipment to support production, shipping, receiving, and warehouse operations. The Switcher Coordinator will operate switcher/yard trucks equipped with a fifth-wheel connection, leased through SIE, to perform trailer pickup, movement, staging, and drop-off activities throughout the facility and designated yard locations. The Switcher Coordinator works closely with transportation providers, warehouse personnel, production teams, and logistics staff to ensure timely trailer placement, efficient yard management, and uninterrupted material flow.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience in logistics, transportation, warehouse operations, manufacturing, or related fields.
  • Ability to safely maneuver trailers and equipment in a busy industrial environment.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic computer skills and experience with inventory, transportation, or warehouse management systems.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Ability to safely operate switcher/yard trucks utilizing a fifth-wheel coupling system for trailer movement.
  • Ability to perform trailer hook-up, inspection, movement, and drop-off procedures in accordance with safety standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience operating yard vehicles, industrial equipment, forklifts, or material handling equipment preferred.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, distribution, or logistics setting.
  • Knowledge of shipping, receiving, transportation, and yard management processes.
  • Powered Industrial Vehicle (PIV) certification or ability to obtain certification.
  • Experience with SAP or warehouse management systems.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate switcher/yard trucks equipped with a fifth-wheel coupling system to connect, relocate, stage, and position trailers throughout property and designated logistics areas.
  • Operate -leased switcher equipment provided through SIE (Shoreline Intermodal Express) to perform trailer pickup and drop-off activities in support of shipping, receiving, and production operations.
  • Conduct trailer hook-up and disconnect procedures, including inspection of fifth-wheel connections, air lines, electrical connections, and trailer securement prior to movement.
  • Ensure trailers are accurately positioned at loading docks, staging areas, warehouse locations, and production support areas according to operational requirements.
  • Adhere to all safety policies, procedures, and operational standards.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance needs promptly.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient yard environment.
  • Report safety concerns, incidents, equipment damage, or operational delays to leadership.
  • Support continuous improvement efforts related to safety, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and 5S initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve yard operations and trailer utilization.
  • Assist with training team members on yard procedures and safety practices when needed.
