About The Position

Halton Healthcare is seeking individuals who are competent in their chosen profession; are patient/customer focused; are team players; are effective communicators; are caring and respectful and are fiscally responsible. This role involves answering internal and external phone calls on a multi-line phone within a switchboard for all three hospital sites, responding to inquiries through the physicians' answering service, and maintaining imminent changes on the SPOK calendar for physicians and clinical staff. The operator will also respond to all emergency codes and follow procedures, page/text and/or call physicians as required, and transfer calls to appropriate departments/staff/patients. Additionally, the role includes activating new pagers/swapping existing pagers if damaged, documenting call transactions and codes, and performing other related duties.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 diploma required
  • Minimum of 6 weeks training required.
  • Must be reliable and available for shifts on short notice
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience working in a switchboard preferably in a hospital setting
  • Must be able to type at least 30 wpm
  • Experience using a computer
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast paced, stressful environment
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to diplomatically respond to inquiries from physicians, staff, volunteers, patients, family members and members of the general public
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job which requires prolonged periods of sitting
  • Satisfactory employment and attendance record required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Outlook, Excel, Microsoft Teams & Meditech preferred
  • Experience with SPOK Console an asset
  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Excellent problem-solving ability
