About The Position

Transco Railcar Repair, a part of the global industrial organization Marmon Holdings, is seeking a Switchman to operate locomotives to move railcars from a switch list. This role involves safely operating a locomotive in a congested area, requiring considerable caution to prevent damage to rail cars or accidents to employees. The Switchman will also operate switches and direct the flow of cars in the rail yard, maintain a neat and orderly work area, and report potential hazards. The position requires the ability to lift 50 pounds safely, pass a drug screen and physical, and perform physical activities involving considerable use of arms and legs, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling materials. Work may be performed in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 4 ft. off the ground with proper PPE and fall protection. Close mental and visual attention, coordinating manual dexterity with mental and visual attention for sustained periods, is also required.

Requirements

• Basic reading, writing and arithmetic skills required.
• Experience in operating a locomotive (switch engine).
• Ability to lift 50 pounds safely.
• Able to pass drug screen and physical.
• Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
• May work in confined spaces and at heights exceeding 4 ft. off the ground with proper PPE and fall protection.
• Close mental and visual attention required, coordinating manual dexterity with mental and visual attention for sustained periods of time.

Responsibilities

• Operate locomotives to move railcars from a switch list.

• Apply seals to loaded trailers to prepare them to exit the facility.
• Record trailer movement and complete yard reports.
