About The Position

The Almaden Valley Athletic Club (AVAC) Swim School is looking for people who LOVE children and enjoy being in the water. We’re proud and passionate for our superhero team who instill in children a lifelong love of swimming, respect for the water, the full spectrum of swimming skills, and prevention of the #1 cause of death in the US, drowning. Never taught a swim lesson before? That’s OK! We train all our teachers our award winning skills progression and aquatic/child development philosophy.

Requirements

Schedule consistency, able to work weekends.
Loves children and welcomes challenges when they cry, fall down, pout, talk back, and struggle with their learning.
Ability to be on stage (or rather a fishbowl).
Extreme patience.
Comfort with talking to a child at eye level with age relevant conversation.
At home in the water. Able to spend hours in chlorinated water, in a swimsuit, in an out of the pool via stairs, supporting kids of all sizes in shallow and deep water.
Ability to obtain CPR/AED Certificate within 30 days.
Ability to obtain a Red Cross Lifeguard certificate within 6 months (Shallow Water Lifeguard is acceptable).
Ability to pass a background check and California’s child care registry, Guardian.

Teach children water safety and drowning prevention.
Utilize award-winning skills progression and aquatic/child development philosophy.
Be calm, collected, friendly, playful, and professional.
Engage with children at eye level with age-relevant conversation.
Support children of all sizes in shallow and deep water.
