About The Position

The Swim Lesson Instructor is responsible for communicating and promoting the YMCA mission, goals, and objectives. They will instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly. This role also serves in an advisory capacity to ensure a safe aquatic environment is maintained at the YMCA aquatic facility, promoting a safe and positive atmosphere during scheduled working hours. The instructor will build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents, helping them connect with each other and the YMCA. They will maintain required records such as attendance and progress reports, convey information on aquatics programs and schedules, and refer students and parents to other programs as appropriate. Additionally, the instructor will organize and put away needed equipment, report damaged equipment, and perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Aquatics.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Demonstrated swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
  • Required certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification and Emergency Oxygen.
  • Ability to see that all business and safety records and procedures set up by the corporation are completed accurately within the defined time schedule.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain all personal certifications needed to serve in this position.
  • Ability to interpret, as well as, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and utilize initiative, ability to be organized and to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
  • Work to continue personal competency through education, outside literature, seminars, etc.
  • Able to work as a team leader and builder/member.

Responsibilities
