About The Position

The Swim Lesson Instructor is responsible for communicating and promoting the YMCA mission, goals, and objectives. They will instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly. This role also involves serving in an advisory capacity to ensure a safe aquatic environment is maintained at the YMCA aquatic facility, promoting a safe and positive atmosphere, and building effective relationships with students and parents. The instructor will maintain required records, convey information on aquatics programs, organize and put away equipment, and report any damaged equipment. Additional duties may be assigned by the Director of Aquatics.

Requirements

Willingness to carry out the mission of the YMCA and its programs.
Ability to see that all business and safety records and procedures set up by the corporation are completed accurately within the defined time schedule.
Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to maintain all personal certifications needed to serve in this position.
Ability to interpret, as well as, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
Ability to work independently and utilize initiative, ability to be organized and to meet deadlines.
Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Work to continue personal competency through education, outside literature, seminars, etc.
Must be at least 16 years old.
Demonstrated swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
Required certifications: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification and Emergency Oxygen.

Responsibilities

Communicate and promote the YMCA mission, goals and objectives to employees, volunteers and the community at large.
Instruct swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.
Serve in an advisory capacity to insure a safe aquatic environment is maintained at the YMCA aquatic facility.
Promote a safe and positive atmosphere during scheduled working hours.
Build effective, authentic relationships with students and parents; help them connect with each other and the YMCA.
Maintains records as required (i.e. attendance, progress reports, etc).
Convey information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refer students and parents to other programs.
Organize and put away needed equipment.
Report damaged equipment.
Responsible for any other duties as assigned by the Director of Aquatics.
