About The Position
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Swim Instructor at Whatcom Family YMCA maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swim classes.
Requirements
- YMCA Swim Instructor certification, or equivalent.
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen certifications within 90 days of hire.
- Must be able to demonstrate swim instructor skills in accordance with YMCA standards.
- At least 16 years of age.
Responsibilities
- Instruct participants of all ages how to swim in accordance with the swim program of the YMCA.
- Be on time and prepared for classes.
- Be responsible for setting up and putting away any equipment used to teach.
- Take attendance on appropriate rosters and turn in to supervisor at the conclusion of the lesson session.
- Fill out appropriate progress report for each student taught.
- Communicate with parents about the progress of their child.
- Provide positive customer service to all participants.
- Attend all staff meetings.
- Promote all programs of the YMCA, and model the core values of the YMCA.
- Be knowledgeable of emergency procedures.
- Keep current and obtain appropriate certifications.
- Follow procedures set forth by the Aquatic Director of the Whatcom Family YMCA.
