About The Position

The Swim Lesson Coordinator is responsible for the daily oversight and successful operation of group swim lessons, NEMO swim lessons, and private swim lessons. This position provides on-deck leadership, supervises all swim instructors, ensures a safe and positive learning environment, coordinates staff training, manages instructional equipment, and serves as the lead supervisor during designated aquatics programs and facility operations.

Requirements

  • Minimum age of 18 years, preferred age of 21 years or older
  • Current CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification (or ability to obtain upon hire) and relevant First Aid trainings
  • Previous experience teaching swim lessons and supervising staff
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
  • Ability to stand, walk, and actively supervise aquatic environments for extended periods
  • Ability to lift and move swim lesson equipment and supplies
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations

Responsibilities

  • Provide daily oversight of group swim lessons and NEMO swim lessons during scheduled program hours, and facilitates all coordination and registration for private swim lessons for members
  • Monitor lesson quality and ensure instructors follow established curriculum and teaching standards
  • Support swim instructors with class organization, participant management, and customer service needs
  • Address participant and parent questions, concerns, and feedback in a professional manner
  • Supervise swim lesson instructors and provide ongoing support, coaching and performance feedback
  • Ensure compliance with all facility safety policies, emergency procedures, and risk management practices
  • Conduct and facilitate monthly in-services for swim lesson instructors.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement among instructional staff
  • Maintain inventory of swim lesson equipment and instructional supplies
  • Ensure equipment is organized, clean, safe, and available for program use
  • Identify equipment needs and communicate replacement or purchasing recommendations
  • Serve as the lead supervisor for Saturday Family Swim (unless designated by another aquatics staff member) and other assigned aquatics programs
  • Monitor facility operations and respond appropriately to participant concerns, incidents, and emergencies
  • Assist with staff scheduling, program preparation, and operational support as assigned
  • Actively adhere to and promote the YMCA's abuse risk management policies, which are designed to prevent and address any potential incidents of abuse.
  • Remain vigilant in recognizing signs of abuse, report any concerns or suspicious behaviors immediately, and participate in required training to stay informed on best practices for safeguarding.
