Requirements

  • The minimum age of 16.
  • Certifications: CPR for?Professional?Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid and Emergency Oxygen.??
  • Currently?YMCA certified Swim Instructor, YMCA Water Safety instructor.? The?YMCA will?assist?with the above training to be achieved within the first year of?employment.?
  • Ability to?maintain?certification levels?of physical and mental readiness.

Nice To Haves

  • 1+ years of experience teaching youth is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Builds personal and meaningful relationships with YMCA members, participants, volunteers, and guests. While exemplifying the Y’s commitment to the four-character values of caring, honesty, respect & responsibility and responds to all members and community inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Instructs swimming lessons in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly, and supports members and program participants in achieving their goals.
  • Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and as appropriate refer program participants and families to other programs.
  • Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, progress reports).
  • Knows and upholds all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies, procedures, and the “safe-in-six model” (Prevent, Recognize, Activate EAP, Rescue, Care, Report).
  • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code.
  • Performs equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
  • Trains and supervises class aids as assigned.
  • Attend all staff meetings and in-service training.
  • Fulfills any functions?appointed?by the YMCA administration
