Swim Instructor
About The Position
The Swim Instructor provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for students in swimming classes. This role involves instructing swimming lessons, preparing lesson plans according to the YMCA, and building effective relationships with parents and students to communicate accomplishments. The instructor will also convey information about aquatics programs and schedules, and refer students and parents to other programs. Maintaining records and attending scheduled meetings and trainings are also key responsibilities. The role requires the ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques, and to lift equipment and small to average-sized children.
Requirements
- At a minimum, some high school level education (over 16+ years of age)
- CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, Basic First Aid certification, and Emergency Oxygen
- Current YMCA Swim Instructor certification OR training provided.
Responsibilities
- Instructs swimming lessons and prepares lesson plans according to the YMCA.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with parents and students to connect and inform parents of each other and students’ accomplishments.
- Conveys information on aquatics programs and schedules and refers students and parents to other programs.
- Maintains records and attends meetings and trainings as scheduled.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
- Ability to lift equipment and to lift a small to average-sized child.
