About The Position

The Swim Instructor will follow YUSA established lesson plans, understand stroke progression, and implement the Core Values into lesson plans. They will communicate with families about program information and their child's progression in swimming, complete swim assessments, evaluations, and certificates of completion, and identify and correct incorrect swimming techniques. The instructor will adjust teaching techniques according to swimmer's needs, maintain tracking of class attendance, and ensure participants are released to caretakers. They will provide exceptional customer service, foster connections with members, and participate in and satisfactorily complete in-service trainings. The role involves creating a welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all members and guests, working collaboratively and respectfully as part of a staff team, and ensuring building, grounds, and equipment are in working order, reporting any concerns. The instructor must maintain certifications and take advantage of professional growth opportunities, support the annual campaign process including educating members, and understand their role as a mandated reporter of elder and child abuse, responding to situations in accordance with policies and procedures. Ensuring the safety of children in facilities and programs and that proper supervision is provided is also a key responsibility. Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years old
  • Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance, if over 18 years old
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; valid work permit required if a minor
  • If applicable, complete YUSA swim instructor certification within 90 days of hire
  • Complete required certification within 60 days of hire
  • Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Previous work experience with children or in related field preferred

Responsibilities

  • Identify incorrect swimming techniques and provide correction
  • Adjust teaching techniques according to swimmer’s needs
  • Maintain tracking of class attendance.
  • Ensure participants are released to caretakers
  • Provides exceptional customer service and fosters connections with members
  • Participating and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings
  • Create an environment that is welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive for all members and guests
