About The Position

The Swim Instructor provides safe, engaging, and high-quality group and private swim instruction for participants of all ages and skill levels. This position promotes water safety, supports aquatic programming, maintains accurate records, and assists with lifeguarding duties as assigned while creating a positive experience for members and guests.

Requirements

Minimum age of 16 years old
Lifeguard training and some experience teaching swim lessons required.
Must have current Red Cross Lifeguard Certificate
Current American Red Cross (or equivalent) CPR/AED and First Aid Certification.

Nice To Haves

Previous competitive swimming, coaching, or instruction experience preferred.
American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Certification (preferred)

Responsibilities

Maintains all necessary class records as determined by the Community Center Director.
Assists in rendering First Aid according to the standards established by the American Red Cross and American Heart Association.
Leads the program development and teaching of Summer Rec swim/aqua classes.
Performs lifeguarding duties, including surveillance and emergency response, when assigned by the Community Center Director.
Prepare seasonal swim letter to members about lesson dates, class times and costs.
Maintains attendance records of members and children attending lessons.
Prepare lesson plans appropriate for participant age and ability.
Evaluate participant progress and provide feedback.
Enforce pool rules and safety procedures.
Reports all member/guest concerns, emergencies, hazards or faulty equipment to the Community Center Director.
Inspect instructional equipment before and after use.
Maintain a clean and organized pool deck and instructional area.
Processes lesson registrations and payments according to Community Center procedures.
Maintains a courteous, polite and helpful relationship with all members and guests.
Attend all staff meetings.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Community Center Director.
