About The Position
The Swim Instructor is responsible for teaching swimming lessons to all ages, including instruction and monitoring. This role also involves lifeguarding during swim classes, pool parties, and public swim times. The instructor will implement YMCA practices to ensure the safety and quality of all swimming lessons and program quality by assisting in participant evaluations. The position requires the ability to make quick decisions, enforce rules assertively, and maintain a level of physical and mental readiness. Effective verbal communication with large and small groups is essential.
Requirements
- Minimum age-16
- YMCA Swim Instructor or Water Safety Instructor (WSI) AND Lifeguarding with CPR / AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid or equivalent certifications required by June 2026
- Ability to maintain level of physical and mental readiness
- Must demonstrate water safety skills in accordance with YMCA standards at all times
- Must pass criminal background clearance, drug test, health screening, TB test
Nice To Haves
- 1-3 years of experience teaching swimming and/or lifeguarding
