The Swim Instructor at Montecito Family YMCA is responsible for delivering swimming lessons based on YUSA established lesson plans, focusing on stroke progression and integrating the YMCA Core Values. Key aspects of the role include regular communication with families regarding program information and child's progress, conducting swim assessments, evaluations, and issuing certificates. The instructor must be adept at identifying and correcting incorrect swimming techniques, adapting teaching methods to suit individual swimmer needs, and accurately tracking class attendance. Ensuring the safe release of participants to caretakers, providing exceptional customer service, and fostering strong connections with members are also crucial. The role requires active participation in and satisfactory completion of in-service trainings, creating a welcoming, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all members and guests, and collaborating respectfully with the staff team. Additionally, the instructor is expected to ensure the proper functioning of the building, grounds, and equipment, reporting any concerns, maintaining required certifications, and pursuing professional growth opportunities. Supporting the annual campaign process by educating members and understanding and fulfilling the role of a mandated reporter for elder and child abuse, in accordance with policies and procedures, are also part of the responsibilities. The instructor must ensure the safety and proper supervision of children in facilities and programs.
