About The Position

The Anaheim HS Swim Instructor is a seasonal position responsible for teaching swimming lessons to individuals of all ages and lifeguarding during various aquatic activities. This role requires implementing YMCA practices to ensure safety and quality in swimming lessons, evaluating participants, and enforcing rules and regulations effectively. The instructor must maintain a high level of physical and mental readiness and possess strong verbal communication skills for addressing both large and small groups.

Requirements

Minimum age-16
YMCA Swim Instructor or Water Safety Instructor (WSI) and Lifeguarding with CPR / AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid or equivalent certifications required by June 2026
Must pass criminal background clearance, drug test, health screening, TB test
Ability to maintain level of physical and mental readiness
Must demonstrate water safety skills in accordance with YMCA standards at all times

Nice To Haves

1-3 years of experience teaching swimming and/or lifeguarding

Responsibilities

Teaching swimming lessons to all ages (instruct & monitor)
Lifeguarding during swim classes, pool parties and/or public swim times
Implement YMCA practices that ensures the safety and quality of all swimming lessons
Assuring program quality by assisting in evaluating all participants
Must be able to make quick decisions and be assertive in enforcing rules & regulations
Ability to maintain level of physical and mental readiness
Ability to communicate verbally to large and small groups of members effectively
