About The Position

The Swim Instructor provides members with individualized instruction tailored to their needs and skill levels, teaches group lessons, and assists with clinics. The role involves working with members and guests of varying fitness levels in a positive, service-oriented manner and following established safety and specialty-certification guidelines.

Requirements

At least 1 year of related experience instructing and/or coaching swim.
CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire; certification is provided by Power Wellness.
Current lifeguard certification from a nationally recognized organization if required by state law.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work with members in a positive, service-based manner.
Ability to multitask and maintain a controlled, professional demeanor.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or GED.
Water Safety Instructor certification.
USA Swim Coaching Level 1 certification.

Responsibilities

Lead individual and small-group swim classes for members and guests of varying fitness levels.
Teach within the standard guidelines of specialty certifications.
Understand contraindicated exercises and use a safe, effective approach to exercise.
Assess clients’ needs by evaluating their strength and ability in the water.
Respond to and schedule requests for swim instruction.
Suggest new programs and monthly swim promotions.
Maintain industry certification in good standing and meet continuing education requirements.
Meet scheduled commitments, avoid missed sessions or classes, and seek substitute instructors in advance when needed.
Be flexible and accommodating regarding center hours, work schedules, and scheduling appointments for prospects and members.
Meet all safety requirements and certifications necessary to perform job duties.
Know emergency and safety procedures and communicate confidently with EMS.
