About The Position

The Head of Commercial Banking leads Coastal1’s commercial lending and business banking functions, driving growth, managing risk, developing talent, and ensuring strong execution, collaboration, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • At least 10 to 15 years proven experience in commercial lending, business banking, and portfolio or credit management, preferably within a bank or credit union environment.
  • Proven leadership experience with a strong ability to drive growth, manage performance, allocate resources, and develop teams.
  • Strong knowledge of commercial credit, loan structuring, pricing, deposit growth strategies, and State, Federal, and Compliance Banking regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent strategic, analytical, communication, and relationship management skills.
  • Proficient in secondary market mechanisms, fully familiar with pertinent regulatory requirements and with pipeline management.
  • Proven problem-solving ability. Ability to reach decisions by thinking strategically for short-and long-term solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Time management/organizational/multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across all levels and functions of the organization to coordinate solutions.
  • Ability to effectively balance policies, procedures, and administrative requirements of the Credit Union.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategy and execution to grow commercial loans, business deposits, and member relationships in alignment with Coastal1’s goals.
  • Set priorities, manage resources, and oversee team performance, credit quality, systems, and reporting.
  • Develop staff and foster collaboration across lending, underwriting, portfolio management, business banking, and other Coastal1 teams.
  • Represent Coastal1 professionally with members, prospects, regulators, investors, and community partners.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Lead staff development, maintain key external relationships, and support broader business development efforts.
  • Partner with the Chief Lending Officer and executive management on strategy, performance, staffing, risk, and asset/liability management.
  • Advise members and support relationship deepening opportunities across Coastal1 products and services.
  • Manage the commercial loan pipeline and report results, trends, and market conditions to senior management.
  • Drive lending growth through sound pricing, structure, credit analysis, and portfolio oversight.
  • Oversee underwriting systems and work closely with underwriting and portfolio management to support timely, quality decisions.
  • Manage business banking performance, including deposit growth, account activity, and market competitiveness.
  • Develop strategies to grow relationships, price products effectively, and respond to market and competitor changes.
  • Partner across Coastal1 to deliver coordinated business banking solutions and strengthen member growth and retention.
