About The Position

Johnson Controls is hiring a Sustaining Mechanical Engineer for the Fire Suppression Special Hazards & Foam R&D team. This product support engineering role will involve supporting a portfolio of fire protection products and equipment used across various applications and industries. The engineer will provide technical support to Manufacturing, Quality, and Technical Services teams, collaborate with regulatory and certification agencies to maintain global compliance, and work within a global R&D organization to design, test, validate, and improve products. The role offers opportunities to drive product enhancements, implement cost reduction initiatives, and lead engineering changes from concept to execution. Key responsibilities include troubleshooting product issues, supporting continuous improvement, and ensuring ongoing product performance and reliability. The position requires regular collaboration with cross-functional teams, global engineering partners, external suppliers, regulatory bodies, and customers. This role is based onsite in Marinette, WI, and candidates must be within commuting distance or open to relocation. Only US Citizens and/or Permanent Residents will be considered.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3+ years relevant work experience as a mechanical engineer
  • Experience based understanding of fundamental engineering theories, mathematics, mechanics, and physical science concepts to the job
  • Practical knowledge of best practices for manufacturing and design

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with DFMEA (design failure mode and effect analysis)
  • Functional knowledge of VAVE
  • Experience with phase-gate design processes
  • Proficiency of MSOffice, PTC Creo and Windchill

Responsibilities

  • Conduct root cause analysis of difficult design or manufacturing problems.
  • Demonstrate creative thinking in problem solving and design activities.
  • Manage multiple sustaining engineering projects and prioritize to meet critical deadlines.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and R&D teams to clearly communicate design specifications and test criteria.
  • Support a portfolio of fire protection products and equipment.
  • Provide technical support to the business by partnering with Manufacturing, Quality, and Technical Services teams.
  • Collaborate with regulatory and certification agencies to maintain compliance with global standards.
  • Work within a global R&D organization to design, test, validate, and improve products.
  • Drive product enhancements.
