About The Position

The Sustainable Marketing Manager will develop and carry out initiatives aimed at embedding sustainable business into Volm’s Packaging and Equipment areas, including strategy and visioning, culture, and business operations. This role will focus on advancing Volm’s strategic objectives to meet environmental targets and position Volm to deliver sustainable products to our customers.

  • Knowledge of sustainability or environmental studies, normally acquired by the completion of a bachelor's degree in sustainability, or related field and/or equivalent work experience.

  • Capability to lift and carry objects of various weights, up to 50 pounds.
  • Proficiency in using hands, fingers, and arms for tasks such as typing and writing.
  • Sufficient visual acuity to read documents and recognize details at close and distant ranges.
  • Ability to hear and understand verbal communication.
  • Flexibility to bend, stoop, and reach low or high objects.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying heavy objects.
  • Adaptability to work in varying environmental conditions, such as temperature extremes, noise, dust, or fumes, depending on the nature of the job.
  • Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and wear protective gear, including helmets, goggles, gloves, and safety shoes, as required by the job.
  • The ability to drive a company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle on behalf of the company may be required. Inclusion in the company’s driver qualification program is required to drive a company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle.
  • Agree to the company driving policies that apply to company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle as applicable.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license and be a minimum of 21 years of age.
  • Maintain an acceptable driving record, as evidenced by completion of a baseline motor vehicle record check and ongoing monitoring.
  • When driving a personal vehicle on behalf of the company, must provide a copy of the declaration page from personal auto insurance that shows the policy dates and minimum coverage amounts ($300,000 bodily injury per accident/$100,000 property damage per accident or if driving less than 5 hours/200 miles a year $50,000 bodily injury per accident/$10,000 property damage per accident or the state minimum, whichever is more). This requirement is initially and then annually thereafter.

Responsibilities

  • Direct communication with customers regarding sustainable topics, including the preparation of presentations and custom documents (regulatory, compliance, etc.).
  • Drive progress and results against Volm’s corporate targets and external commitments for Packaging.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to maintain the existing comprehensive Volm Corporate Sustainability Report, from people to production to products.
  • Establish a clear strategy to identify more sustainable alternatives or replacement practices and products, participate in the testing of new materials and delivery mechanisms, and scale across our North American operations.
  • Expand upon Volm’s Sustainable Packaging & Equipment Portfolio to equip internal teams with the tools to properly deliver messaging to customers with varying levels of procurement sophistication.
  • Create materials to educate internal teams, streamline processes across all brands, and facilitate forums for cross-divisional sharing of best practices.
  • Review new innovative materials from a corporate responsibility lens to ensure we are not greenwashing when making claims.
  • Manage partnerships with key multi-stakeholder initiatives such as How2Recycle, Sustainable Packaging Coalition, and other key industry affiliates as identified.
  • Evaluate our current programs and benchmark industry best practices to help inform go-forward opportunities to improve packaging sustainability.
  • Represent Volm in external forums to drive industry alignment.
  • Collaborate with similar suppliers to the industry and supplier partners to bring awareness to the benefits of plastic and provide education to fresh produce sellers and consumers of our end products.
  • Participate with governmental bodies and relations groups, including research and lobbying in recycling, food waste, infrastructure, and extended producer responsibility.
