About The Position

Syska Hennessy Group, a global leader in consulting, engineering, and commissioning services, is seeking a Sustainability Specialist III - Senior Sustainability Specialist to join their building science group in either the Los Angeles or San Diego office. This role involves providing regional leadership for decarbonization and healthy building solutions across various sectors, including aviation, higher-education, civic, healthcare, mission critical, and commercial office markets. The ideal candidate will leverage their knowledge of building systems, energy, carbon, daylighting, and occupant health to ensure project success. Requirements

  • Ability to provide direct consulting services to clients from early-stage ideation to late-stage energy modeling & certification submissions.
  • Experience and ability to apply relevant industry knowledge with codes, strategies, trends and drivers to project design.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Desire and ability to grow to a senior level Sustainability Specialist role.
  • Ability to read, review, and evaluate Architectural and Engineering drawings and visualize three-dimensional models.
  • Familiarity with design tools such as Revit.
  • Competency with simulation and modeling tools, (primarily IESVE and CA Title-24 code compliance tools such as EnergyPro and CBECC. Additional tools may include Windows, COMFEN, Climate Consultant, Sefaira, EnergyPlus, PVWATTS.)
  • Minimum of 5- 8+ years of experience working in a consulting firm working on energy & carbon focused design.
  • Basic understanding of proper system selection and applicable building codes.
  • Knowledge of LEED and WELL design principles.
  • LEED accredited and WELL accredited or on track to achieving accreditation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide regional leadership as part of the national High-Performance Solution Team.
  • Deliver full service high-performance building support, including ideation, qualitative consultancy, quantitative analysis, and communication across all aspects of building systems.
  • Utilize IES-VE for energy modeling.
  • Drive electrification and decarbonization efforts in support of the MEP 2040 Challenge.
  • Act as a consultant to teammates and clients.
  • Regularly interact with other HPS team members and MEP engineers.
  • Perform whole building energy modeling.
  • Conduct energy efficiency measure analysis.
  • Develop Net Zero Energy/Carbon roadmapping.
  • Provide green building certification support (LEED, WELL, LBC, RESET, etc.).
  • Perform renewable energy analysis.
  • Offer incentive and rebate program support.
  • Provide beneficial electrification consulting.
  • Conduct Life Cycle Cost Analysis.
  • Understand local and national energy codes and policies.
  • Offer support and consultation related to sustainability strategies, energy efficiency measures, innovative technologies, voluntary rating standards, codes, and industry trends.
  • Present at internal and external lunch & learn type trainings.
  • Collaborate with owner and architect clients and MEP design engineers to develop energy and water efficiency strategies and system approaches on their projects – relating to high-performance HVAC systems, plumbing systems and electrical/lighting systems.
