About The Position

The Sustainability Manager is a highly collaborative, strategic role responsible for supporting Sunbelt Rentals’ sustainability both internally and externally with a particular emphasis on customers. This role will lead the development and evolution of customer sustainability content offerings, oversee responses to sustainability-related requests, and partner with senior leadership to shape sustainability and climate strategy. The manager will also lead cross-functional sustainability initiatives, collaborate with data managers and internal functions, and guide the development of reporting and communications. Additionally, the role involves applying knowledge of GHG Protocol frameworks, advancing understanding of Sunbelt's sustainability commitments, ensuring regulatory compliance, developing solutions to sustainability challenges, and designing information models to inform business decisions.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Sustainability, Engineering, Environmental Science, Business, Public Policy, Communications, or related field; or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in sustainability or environmental data-focused roles.
  • 2+ years of experience in a client or customer facing role preferred.
  • Strong modeling, analytical, and data management skills.
  • Experience with emissions reporting, carbon accounting methodologies, or jobsite level emissions modeling preferred.
  • Proficiency with Excel, PowerPoint, Word, PowerBI, and SQL experience preferred.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify technical concepts.
  • Ability to manage urgent requests, work independently, and operate effectively in an unstructured or evolving environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across functions and build strong working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and evolution of customer sustainability content offerings across the full customer journey—from discovery and consideration through decision, retention, and advocacy—positioning Sunbelt Rentals’ low‑to‑zero emission equipment and cleaner power solutions (biofuels, hybrids, BESS, electrification, etc.) as clear sources of customer value and differentiation.
  • Oversee and coordinate responses to customer, NGO, and government sustainability‑related requests, sustainability questionnaires, and surveys; establish and maintain a structured, scalable repository of FAQs, standard responses, and supporting materials to ensure consistency, efficiency, and accuracy.
  • Partner with senior leadership to shape sustainability and climate strategy, supporting the development of carbon reduction approaches across the value chain, including product, customer, and supplier dimensions.
  • Lead cross‑functional sustainability initiatives, aligning and connecting work across Fleet, Power & HVAC, Sales, Procurement, Telematics, Marketing, and other teams to drive integrated execution and measurable outcomes.
  • Collaborate closely with the Sustainability Data Manager and internal sustainability functions (Operations, Communities, People, Customer) to advance enterprise‑wide initiatives and ensure alignment between strategy, data, and execution.
  • Guide the development of customer‑facing and internal reporting, dashboards, communications, marketing, and training materials, ensuring clarity, credibility, and alignment with Sunbelt’s sustainability strategy.
  • Apply working knowledge of GHG Protocol frameworks to support customer and internal emissions reporting, including Scope 1–3 methodologies and jobsite‑level carbon calculations, ensuring methodological rigor and consistency.
  • Advance understanding of Sunbelt Rentals’ sustainability commitments and approach with internal and external audiences through training, education, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable sustainability‑related regulations and standards, proactively monitoring requirements and supporting alignment across the business.
  • Develop and implement solutions to sustainability‑related needs, opportunities, and challenges, operating independently where appropriate while fostering collaboration across teams.
  • Design, maintain, and apply effective information models that inform business decisions, enable insight‑driven action, and support continuous improvement.
