About The Position

Bloomberg Associates (BA) is Bloomberg Philanthropies’ pro bono consulting service founded by Michael R. Bloomberg. BA provides services to cities that help governments improve the quality of life of their citizens. Within the Sustainability practice, the Housing Team supports multiple client cities across a wide array of projects related to housing affordability broadly and municipal efforts to increase that affordability. The Housing Team is seeking a fellow to support the team on various housing projects across several client cities. Engagements with cities include projects such as housing program development, housing needs assessments, best practice research, and high-level strategic planning. The fellow should have an understanding of affordable housing policy and programming within municipal contexts to facilitate onboarding into projects within various cities. They should have a high level of comfort with data analyses, conducting desktop research and interviews, and development of presentation materials. This role is remote and part-time, working an average of 20 hours per week. The Fellow would be on a six-month contract.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field and a minimum of two years’ relevant professional experience in affordable housing, urban planning, or public/non-profit administration.
  • A strategic and analytical mindset with attention to detail and a complete focus on delivery.
  • A proven track record of strong project execution, policy research, project management and results driven impact.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills and the ability to work with multiple stakeholders.
  • Clear and concise writing skills.
  • Ability to convey complex data in simple PowerPoint design.
  • Comfortable working through ambiguity to create paths forward.
  • Experience working with high-level stakeholders with discretion and professionalism.
  • An entrepreneurial self-starter can do approach with the ability to think and plan creatively.
  • A quick learner, able to absorb and synthesize large amounts of information.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to use Tableau software would also be helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct program research and interview municipal staff as part of existing housing program audits.
  • Support the development of Housing Needs Assessment(s) by producing data analyses, overseeing project management or consultants, and developing presentations or reports.
  • Provide technical assistance and project management support in the development of public facing housing dashboards, backend data infrastructure, and governing SOPs in multiple cities.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis and develop presentations that communicate the impact of municipal programs.
  • Undertake housing best practice research and develop policy or program case studies that help guide clients as they develop local strategies.
  • Coordinate with interlocuters at client cities, maintaining professional communication and fostering successful working relationships.
