About The Position

Peraton is seeking a Spring & Summer 2027 Sustainability Engineer Co-op to support the Country of San Diego Contract from January 2027 to August 2027. As a Sustainability Engineer Co-op students will help measure and reduce the environmental impact of County technology. You'll support emissions reporting, assess vendor sustainability, analyze the energy footprint of AI workloads, and build dashboards that track progress toward climate goals. Peraton is the County of San Diego's IT and telecommunications partner, supporting the technology that County departments rely on to serve more than 3 million residents, from public health and social services to public safety and libraries. As a intern/co-op on the CoSD program, you'll work alongside Peraton professionals on real projects that modernize County services, including emerging work applying AI to how software is designed, built, and delivered.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship
  • HS Diploma and some advanced level training.
  • Current undergrad or graduate student and have completed progress or pursuing a degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Data Science, or related field
  • Coursework in greenhouse gas accounting, climate policy, or sustainability metrics
  • Data analysis skills in Excel or Python

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the GHG Protocol (Scope 1, 2, 3 emissions)
  • Knowledge of California climate disclosure policy
  • Dashboard experience (Power BI, Tableau)
  • Interest in the environmental impact of AI and cloud computing
