About The Position

The Sustainability Analyst will play a key role in Stanford Medicine Children’s Health’s sustainability strategy by supporting the development and implementation of projects, programs, policies, and budgets related to sustainability. The Sustainability Analyst will support efforts related to climate action and resilience planning, building decarbonization and electrification, green building and energy efficiency, waste reduction, and alternative transportation. This role will utilize technical expertise and knowledge of sustainability standards to: collect, calculate, model and report sustainability data; create and update sustainability content for educational and outreach materials; and work with internal teams to pursue opportunities to reduce the environmental impacts of our facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Excel for data analysis and reporting
  • Ability to critically evaluate data, identify trends, and draw insights to inform decision making and problem-solving related to sustainability challenges and opportunities
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively both as team player and independent contributor
  • Ability to work well with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to think creatively, function independently and work proactively in a fast-paced environment

Responsibilities

  • Manages the collection, analysis, and reporting of pertinent key performance indicators (KPI) and other performance related data and develops continuous improvement and action plans.
  • Provides analysis of large, complex data sets including data from utility, waste, furnishing, purchasing, and food data to provide key insights to leaders. Develops, implements, and maintains databases for tracking KPI.
  • Using trends and data collected from auditing, use, and disposal information, assists Sustainability Team in preparation, review, and presentation of the business case for sustainability programs and improved education.
  • Utilizing data from utilities and waste generation, develops metric dashboard system to track established goals and advise sustainability leadership for communication to key stakeholders.
  • Identifies and frames trends to define potential opportunities, including data analysis and business modeling. Creates charts from various data sources and analyze results for trends and anomalies.
  • Maintains department database information and tracking sheets. Collects data for annual GHG report, Practice Greenhealth report, and Sustainability reports.
  • Assists in streamlining reporting requirements and provides recommendation to improve reporting and analytics processes and tools as necessary to optimize analysis capability.
  • Supports various sustainability and waste reduction projects as needed. Participates in project design and implementation to improve energy efficiency. Consults construction teams on sustainable design and operational strategies.
  • Develops and maintains training and education materials to support sustainability initiatives.
  • Provides continuing content development for written, verbal, and graphic communication materials including reports, presentations, website content, social media content, program dashboards, and sustainability event logistics. Partners with Marketing Team to update content on internal/external web sites as needed.
