About The Position

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is seeking a Sustainability Analyst 1 to support its sustainability program within the Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC). This role is crucial for ensuring that capital projects align with the City's sustainability objectives, focusing on social, environmental, and economic impacts. The analyst will monitor regulatory changes, track project key performance indicators, and provide support to engineering teams. Responsibilities include data analysis, conducting workshops, presentations, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders. The position also facilitates LEED and Envision project certifications and requires strong communication and client service skills to work effectively with diverse project stakeholders such as engineers, architects, operators, community boards, and urban planners. The Sustainability Analyst 1 reports directly to the Sustainability Lead and ensures consistency in design deliverables across all capital programs, supporting DEP operating bureaus' capital construction requirements in line with BEDC's core values.

Requirements

  • A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
  • Excellent communication and client service skills.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills.
  • Demonstrated ability and enthusiasm for legislative affairs and code enforcement.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure consistency in designing deliverables across all capital programs to support DEP operating bureaus’ capital construction requirements.
  • Assist the sustainability program which implements City-wide sustainability objectives through the development of Bureau specific standards.
  • Ensure sustainable infrastructure investments by monitoring regulatory changes, tracking project key performance indicators and providing support services to Engineering project teams.
  • Advance sustainability goals through data analysis, conducting workshops and presentations, and coordinating with internal and external entities.
  • Work with a variety of project stakeholders including engineers, architects, operators, community boards and urban planners.
  • Facilitate LEED and Envision project certifications.
  • Coordinate with Intra-Agency groups, other City Agencies, and key program stakeholders.
