Sustain SU is the University of Alberta Students’ Union’s arm of sustainability, providing students with opportunities to develop leadership and sustainability skills. They offer various programs including a sustainable market, a Bike Library & Workshop, a blog team, an events team, and a campus Thrift Store. This intake is for Senior Volunteers (Sustainable Leaders) for the Special Events Team and the Thrift Store Team for the Fall and Winter terms. These roles involve assisting the Sustain SU Coordinator, managing junior volunteers (Eco Ambassadors), and developing volunteer management and leadership skills. The positions require a commitment of 5-7 hours per week from late July through April, including bi-weekly and monthly meetings, and shifts running the teams. An in-person interview is required between July 15th - 24th, followed by an orientation. The Special Events Team plans external events to engage the campus community in sustainability and volunteer appreciation events. The Thrift Store Team helps run the on-campus thrift store, SUBsprout, involving sorting, organizing, inventorying donations, and staffing store opening shifts. Availability on Wednesdays and Thursdays is strongly preferred for the Thrift Store Team. Volunteers will attend mandatory training sessions at the start of the term covering programs, communication, attendance, and professional skills.
