About The Position

This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities. IMEG is hiring a Surveying Intern in Rock Island, Illinois. Over 10-12 weeks, you'll assist with engineering analysis, design, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, site drainage and grading design, and other project support while learning the Civil Engineering trade. You'll work closely with experienced engineers and consultants, support coordination across multiple disciplines, and contribute to transportation, municipal, and bridge projects. This role also involves working within project budgets and collaborating with cross-functional teams to help meet project goals and client expectations while supporting resilient, environmentally responsible infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
  • May be required to assist with field duties like surveying and materials testing
  • Skill in the use of Microsoft Office programs, CAD software and BIM
  • Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Regularly required to sit, walk, stand, talk, see, hear, and lift objects up to 25 pounds
  • Occasionally required to drive, kneel, stoop, crouch, crawl, reach with hands or arms, and grasp or pull
  • Will have exposure to outside weather conditions and loud noises

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
  • Strong interest in design consulting

Responsibilities

  • Assist with engineering analysis, design, field inspections, report writing, permit applications, and site drainage and grading design.
  • Support project design work related to discipline systems according to code and company standards.
  • Research resources for commercially available equipment.
  • Help maintain client relations, project design notebooks, and permanent record documentation.
  • Coordinate design and scheduling activities with architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment supplier teams.
  • Document design decisions, meetings, and client instructions while monitoring project design progress.
  • Review project documents for accuracy and completeness before final check.
  • Assist with preparation and issuance of addendum information.
  • Conduct periodic job site observations and other services required by the contract services agreement.
  • Work within project budgets and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations.
