About The Position

Wetland Studies and Solutions, Inc., a Davey company, is seeking an entry-level (0 to 2 years of related experience) Survey Technician to join our team in Richmond, Virginia. This role involves working in a team environment to assist in various types of surveys, including wetland locations, tree surveys, topographic and bathymetric surveys, natural and cultural resource surveys, and construction surveys. The technician will capture land information precisely to ensure development schedules are maintained and projects stay within budget. Responsibilities include assisting in summarizing and reporting on observations and data collected in the field, operating state-of-the-art survey equipment, reading and following maps, and navigating various terrains. The role also requires positive communication with property owners and agencies to arrange for access and work, and safely driving, operating, and maintaining vehicles, including ATVs and boats, in diverse terrains and surfaces.

Requirements

High School diploma or GED
Ability to perform arithmetic operations, geometry and trigonometry computations
Willingness to regularly travel regionally to support projects outside the Washington D.C. metropolitan area
Ability to work safely and independently in the outdoors under a wide range of conditions and weather types
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to work independently and with a team

Nice To Haves

knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, Land Desktop, and GIS a plus
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in surveying, environmental sciences, forestry, wildlife management, arboriculture, or a related discipline is a plus
ISA Certified Arborist

Responsibilities

Working in a team environment

Assist in summarizing and reporting on observations and data collected in the field

Read and follow maps; navigate (in vehicle and on foot) through a variety of terrains
Positively and effectively communicate with property owners and agencies to arrange for necessary access and work
Properly and safely drive, operate and maintain vehicle in a variety of terrains and surfaces (including ATVs and boats)
