About The Position

This position is accountable for conducting routes, bridge inspection, hydraulic, and property surveys. The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire Survey Technicians. Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS thirty months of engineering experience; OR Six years of engineering experience.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires district-wide travel.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of land surveying.
  • Experience with GPS date collection and processing.
  • Considerable knowledge of Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts route, structure, hydraulic, and property surveys.
  • Assists the Survey Crew Chief in preparing work schedules and determining the distribution of survey crew personnel among the various survey projects.
  • Researches property records and compiles data necessary to complete assigned survey projects.
  • Accountable for the maintenance and repair or survey instruments and equipment.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules.
  • Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
