Requirements

  • Previous land surveying, civil drafting, construction, engineering, GIS, or related technical experience is preferred, but not required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; technical training, college coursework, or surveying-related education preferred.
  • Interest in developing skills in records research, survey data processing, construction staking, boundary procedures, and preparation of survey deliverables.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, surveying equipment, or related technical software is beneficial, but not required.
  • Fundamental knowledge of mathematics, geometry, and trigonometry preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, willingness to learn, and ability to organize technical information.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Professional Land Surveyors, field personnel, engineers, project managers, and other technical staff.
  • Ability to take direction, follow established procedures, manage assigned tasks, and contribute in a team environment.
  • Valid Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to assist with field work when required, including physically demanding work in varied terrain and weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours when project schedules require.
  • Successful candidates will demonstrate a commitment to quality, accuracy, professional growth, and continuous improvement in the delivery of professional surveying services.

Responsibilities

  • Support Professional Land Surveyor(s), senior survey technicians, and other survey team members with office production, field operations, and preparation of survey deliverables.
  • Assist with records research, including surveys, deeds, subdivision plats, easements, right-of-way documents, BLM/GLO materials, and other supporting records.
  • Assist with preparation of field information packages, staking notes, control information, maps, exhibits, and project documentation.
  • Assist with construction staking calculations for municipal, transportation, land development, utility, and other civil infrastructure projects.
  • Download, organize, and process field data using Trimble Business Center, AutoCAD Civil 3D, GNSS workflows, point coding, and established J-U-B procedures.
  • Assist with drafting topographic surveys, existing conditions base mapping, exhibits, and surfaces using AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Support boundary surveys, topographic surveys, ALTA/NSPS surveys, construction staking, subdivision plats, Records of Survey, easement exhibits, right-of-way exhibits, and survey control networks.
  • Communicate with field personnel regarding project information, control, staking needs, field notes, and documentation requirements.
  • Perform routine closures, dimension verification, point coding reviews, drafting checks, and other quality-control tasks under the direction of experienced survey staff.
  • Assist with maintaining organized digital and physical survey files.
  • Coordinate underground utility locate requests and assist with preparation of field assignments when needed.
  • Collaborate with in-house engineers, project managers, field personnel, and survey professionals across J-U-B offices.
  • Assist with field work when project needs require, including survey data collection, monument recovery, construction staking support, and field verification.
  • Follow established safety, quality-control, and documentation procedures while developing sound professional judgment and technical independence.
