About The Position

Sunland Asphalt & Construction, LLC. is seeking a Survey Technician - Drone Pilot to join their award-winning team. This role involves setting grade stakes to guide earth moving equipment operators in sloping highways and fill embankments. The Survey Technician will also perform a variety of physical tasks, operate heavy equipment and machinery, and use power and hand tools. A key responsibility is operating drones on active construction and asphalt jobsites in compliance with FAA Part 107 regulations. Requirements

  • Active FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate
  • Fluent in English (speak, read, and write)
  • Meet FMCSA English proficiency requirements under 49 CFR §391.11(b)(2), including the ability to read and speak English, understand highway signs, respond to official inquiries, and make required entries on reports and records.
  • A valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Six (6) months to one (1) year related experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate drones on active construction and asphalt jobsites in compliance with FAA Part 107 regulations.
  • Set grade stakes to guide earth moving equipment operators in sloping highways and fill embankments, using measuring instruments and hand tools.
  • Read survey stakes along highway right-of-way to determine grade specification for embankment.
  • Measure horizontally and vertically, in specified ratio, from survey stake to juncture of embankment and initial excavation, using survey rod and eye level.
  • Set grade stakes, using hatchet, and chalk-mark excavation reference points on stake.
  • Repeat measuring and staking at specified intervals to form horizontal stake lines along embankment.
  • Observe excavating activities to verify conformance to stake references and notify equipment operators or supervisor of deviations.
  • Communicate effectively with earthmovers, paver operators, truck drivers, and general laborers.
  • Work quickly, productively, and safely to meet production goals.
  • Advocate for safety and follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in job-site and safety meetings and all Company related training.
  • Inspect, clean, and maintain equipment and machinery.
  • Set up and tear down equipment.
  • Maintain a clean job site; pick up all tools, equipment, and secure job site each day.
  • Understand material handling and storage in compliance with SDS sheets.
  • Coordinate and work with contractors, sub-contractors, and vendors to complete jobs.
  • Serve as a front-line Company representative and provide excellent service to the customer and the public.
  • Use equipment and/or an assortment of hand tools such as rakes, shovels, wheel barrels, etc.
  • Perform all other general laborer work as needed.
  • Perform any and all other duties assigned.
