About The Position

This position is responsible for the Bureau of Project Implementation upkeep, maintenance, procurement and training of construction surveying equipment. This position will also be responsible for construction layout or layout support, quality assurance of contractor layout, as well as survey data processing.

Requirements

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology, pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS five years of engineering experience OR seven years of engineering experience.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license.
  • Requires extensive travel within the district, some outside the district, which could include overnight stays.
  • Requires limited overtime during early mornings, evenings and weekends.
  • Requires the ability to work in confined spaces, climb steep terrain, wade in water, and deal with animals, insects, rodents, snakes and poisonous plants.
  • Requires the ability to perform physically demanding outdoor work in a variety of conditions and weather (hot, cold, wet, windy, muddy), including but not limited to, active construction sites and roadways open to traffic.
  • Requires frequent visits to active construction sites.
  • Requires successful completion of a background screening.
  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.

Responsibilities

  • Provides Computer-Aided Design & Drafting (CADD) training and support for field staff.
  • Coordinates and functions as the point of contact with the Bureau of Program Development to transfer design data to applicable data systems for use in construction layout.
  • Maintains inventory and track survey equipment currently in use by the Bureau of Project Implementation.
  • Schedules maintenance/calibration as required for current survey equipment inventory.
  • Performs layout and surveying duties for Resident Engineers when no resident inspectors are available to perform the required tasks or if layout is completed by the contractor needs to be verified.
  • Performs data input and data processing, as well as support for construction personnel, of complex survey data.
  • Coordinates computer program development and data reporting for the Bureau of Project Implementation.
  • Inventories and tracks computer hardware and software related to surveying and CADD currently in use by the Bureau of Project Implementation.
  • Trains district construction personnel on the correct use of surveying equipment, including drones.
  • Obtains and maintains all required licenses and certifications to legally operate a drone in the state of Illinois.
  • Perform duties in compliance with departmental safety rules, as well as state and federal guidelines.
  • Perform all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
