About The Position

The Survey Superintendent (BESS) will provide internal surveying services to ensure construction work complies with design drawing locations. This role involves practicing safety rules, following instructions, and performing quality work according to project specifications. The superintendent will be responsible for providing work control lines and elevations, checking 'as built' conditions, performing topographic and cross-section surveys, calculating quantities, and preparing documentation of surveying activities. They will also maintain surveying equipment, coordinate activities with engineers, verify plan drawings, and utilize all essential surveying equipment and techniques. The position requires the ability to read blueprints, calculate geometric shapes, and perform additional assignments as directed by a supervisor. Compliance with the company's drug and alcohol policy, passing physical examinations, and the ability to work while wearing protective equipment are also required.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of and ability to use all the surveying equipment and techniques essential.
  • Ability to accurately read blueprints and calculate shapes (geometric, etc.).
  • Must comply with company’s drug and alcohol abuse policy.
  • Must be able to pass physical examination, pre-employment if necessary, and as required by the company.
  • Able to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding, stairways, etc.
  • Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or work at elevated heights as well as in confined spaces (towers, vessels, excavations, etc.).
  • Able to carry 50 lbs. of tool and/or materials.
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to work extended hours on your feet on uneven surfaces (dirt, concrete, asphalt, mud, gravel, etc.)
  • Must be clean shaven and able to work while wearing a respirator and other personal protective equipment, when required.
  • Must comply with client safety requirements (e.g., clean-shaven, long sleeves, steel-toe boots).
  • Must pass a physical exam if required.
  • Able to wear a respirator and other PPE when required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide internal surveying service to ensure construction work complies with design drawing locations.
  • Practice safety rules.
  • Follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Safe use of hand & power tools.
  • Report to and assist immediate supervisor.
  • Perform quality work as determined by project specifications.
  • Accountable for all tools and materials at the end of your shift.
  • Must work well as part of a team.
  • Provide work control lines and elevations that are required for accurate measurement and correct installation of materials by crafts (Ex: forms for concrete pours, anchor bolts, piping hanger and supports, etc.).
  • Provide checking of “as built” conditions that require the use of surveying techniques.
  • Provide topographic and cross-section surveys as required for planning and payment quantities.
  • Provide quantity calculations as required.
  • Prepare documentation of surveying activities (field books) “as built” drawings and submit for approval upon completion.
  • Maintain condition and adjustment of surveying equipment.
  • Coordinate surveying activities with the assigned engineer to meet the construction requirements.
  • Accuracy verification of plan drawings.
  • Perform additional related assignments as directed by supervisor.
