JMT is currently ranked #50 on Engineering News-Record’s list of the Top 500 Design Firms. Position Summary: JMT is currently seeking Surveying Technician I - Rodman for their N. Charleston, South Carolina Office. The successful candidate for this position will be an entry level position to hold survey rods, carry equipment, cut line, make sketches and assist the survey crew as needed. They will also assist the survey team by gathering and maintaining specified data for land surveying. Finally, they will complete simple routine tasks under close supervision. Immigration sponsorship or support (e.g. H1B, F-1 CPT/OPT/STEM OPT) is not available for this position, except for qualified candidates eligible for the TN visa classification.

Requirements

  • Must successfully complete and pass JMT's Motor Vehicle screening
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Able to pass Background Check
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and oral instructions
  • Ability to solve problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Responsibilities

  • Place and hold measuring tapes when electronic distance-measuring equipment is not used
  • Position and hold the vertical rods, or targets, that instrument operators use for sighting in-order-to measure angles, distances, and elevations
  • Record survey measurements and descriptive data, using notes, drawings, sketches, and inked tracings
  • Run rods for benches and cross-section elevations
  • Search for property irons and survey points
  • Set out and recover stakes, marks, and other monumentation
  • Maintain equipment and vehicles used by surveying crews
  • Perform manual labor, such as cutting brush for lines, carrying stakes, rebar, and other heavy items, and stacking rods
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
