This individual will be responsible for managing survey projects from initiation through completion, maintaining client relationships, coordinating field and technical resources, and collaborating with engineers and other professionals across FPA’s multidisciplinary teams. FPA’s Surveying Department supports a wide range of multidisciplinary projects, providing surveying services for land development, municipal infrastructure, transportation, utility, and other engineering projects throughout New Jersey. The Survey Project Manager will oversee survey projects, coordinate field and office resources, provide technical oversight, and work closely with clients and internal project teams to ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with applicable standards and client requirements. The role offers the opportunity to work on diverse projects while collaborating with professionals across FPA’s engineering disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive surveying experience, including experience managing survey projects.
  • Strong knowledge of land surveying principles, practices, and applicable standards.
  • Experience with boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction, right-of-way, and/or utility surveying.
  • Experience coordinating field crews and survey technicians.
  • Strong understanding of survey plans, plats, legal descriptions, easements, and related documentation.
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or other relevant surveying and design software.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate with clients, contractors, field personnel, engineers, and other project stakeholders.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive client relationships.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Manage surveying projects from project initiation through completion, including scope, schedule, budget, staffing, and deliverables.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and maintain strong, long-term professional relationships.
  • Prepare and review proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, schedules, and contracts.
  • Coordinate field survey activities and work closely with survey crews to ensure accurate and timely collection of data.
  • Provide technical oversight and quality control for boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, right-of-way, construction, utility, and other survey projects.
  • Review survey plans, maps, legal descriptions, easements, plats, and other technical deliverables for accuracy and completeness.
  • Coordinate survey services with civil engineering, transportation, structural, environmental, planning, and other disciplines within the firm.
  • Monitor project budgets, schedules, staffing, and overall financial performance.
  • Identify potential project issues and develop solutions to keep projects moving forward.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to survey staff, including surveyors, technicians, and field personnel.
  • Coordinate with internal project managers and department leaders to ensure survey services align with overall project requirements.
  • Assist with business development activities, including identifying opportunities, developing client relationships, and supporting proposal efforts.
  • Participate in client meetings, project meetings, site visits, and presentations as needed.
  • Maintain awareness of applicable surveying standards, regulations, codes, and industry practices.
  • Ensure projects are completed in accordance with company quality-control procedures and client expectations.
  • Support the development of new clients and opportunities within the surveying and broader engineering markets.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
