About The Position

We’re looking for entry-level and mid-level Survey Instrument Persons to join our specialty Industrial Measurement Division (IMD). As a Survey Instrument Person, you’ll learn about 3D dimensioning, layout, and industrial measurement while using state-of-the-art equipment. You’ll be part of a team performing surveying for a diverse group of clients, from high-tech, manufacturing and fabrication facilities, to the marine industry. The Survey Instrument Person/Field Technician at Westlake Consultants in our highly specialized Industrial Measurement Division is responsible for assisting in the collection of accurate field data using survey instruments and equipment. This role supports surveyors in conducting land surveys, mapping projects, and other related field activities to ensure precise measurements and data collection.

Requirements

  • A genuine interest in 3D surveying and a commitment to teamwork
  • High school diploma or GED (required)
  • Strong listening, writing, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in all types of environments (i.e., indoors, outdoors, extreme weather conditions)
  • Ability to lift and move 50 lbs
  • Ability to be badged for work in sensitive/restricted areas (i.e., drug testing, background screening)
  • A valid driver’s license (a valid state-issued license is required at time of hire)
  • Ability to work extended hours (schedule occasionally requires 10-hour shift and/or Saturday work)
  • Availability for occasional travel within the United States and/or overseas

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain survey instruments and equipment, including total stations, GPS units, and levels.
  • Assist surveyors in conducting field surveys and mapping projects, ensuring accurate data collection and documentation.
  • Record and manage survey data, ensuring it is organized and accessible for analysis and reporting.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient and effective survey operations.
  • Follow safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment in the field.
  • Communicate with project managers and other stakeholders to provide updates on survey progress and findings.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to survey equipment and data collection processes.
