About The Position

We are seeking a survey field crew member that will assist the Crew Chief with collection of survey data to produce an accurate survey in a timely manner. This role involves cutting and clearing brush from survey lines, loading & unloading equipment required for the survey, assisting in determining elevations and laying out stakes, marking points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other marks, measuring between points, placing stakes at designated points and specified elevations, and operating all survey equipment including Total Station and GPS Data collector. The role also requires assisting in the operation of survey instruments, setting up instruments, performing routine maintenance, supporting field surveys, establishing survey control points, collecting survey data, recording accurate field measurements, assisting in entering survey data, reporting equipment issues, adhering to safety protocols, participating in safety meetings, and actively learning surveying skills.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
2 years experience in Surveying and/or Data Collection or related field experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
Basic knowledge of surveying principles, techniques, and equipment is advantageous.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Physical stamina and ability to carry and operate surveying equipment.
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Valid driver’s license.
Time management skills.
Organization.
Positive attitude.

Responsibilities

Assist the Crew Chief with collection of survey data to produce an accurate survey in a timely manner.
Cut and clear brush from survey lines.
Load and unload equipment required for the survey.
Assist in determining elevations and laying out stakes.
Mark points of measurement with elevation, station number, or other marks.
Assist in measuring between points.
Place stakes at designated points and specified elevations.
Assist in operating all survey equipment including Total Station and GPS Data collector.
Assist in the operation of survey instruments, such as total stations, GPS receivers, levels, and data collectors under the supervision of a survey crew chief or surveyor.
Set up survey instruments according to instructions provided by the survey crew chief or surveyor.
Perform routine maintenance and basic cleaning of surveying instruments.
Support the crew chief or surveyor in conducting field surveys including topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and construction layouts surveys.
Assist in establishment of survey control points and marks.
Participate in the collection of survey data, including measurements, ratings, and observations.
Record accurate field measurements and other relevant survey data.
Assist in entering survey data and data collectors or designated devices.
Assist in the setup maintenance and care of surveying instruments, equipment, and tools.
Report any equipment issues or needs to the survey crew chief or surveyor.
Adhere to safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to maintain safe work practices.
Report any safety concerns or hazards to the survey crew chief or surveyor.
Actively learn and develop surveying skills and knowledge under the guidance of the survey crew chief or surveyor.
Learn and follow established protocols and procedures for instrument operation and data collection.
Ensure accurate and precise operation of surveying instruments during data collection.
Collaborate with survey crew chief or surveyor to ensure data accuracy and completeness.
Maintain organized records of field data and assist in data management processes.
Follow proper procedures for the cleaning, storage, and transportation of equipment.
Seek opportunities to enhance understanding of surveying principles techniques and equipment.
Participate in training and development activities as directed.
