About The Position

The Survey Field Technician III assists a Survey Crew Chief in the operation of a field survey crew and acts as the Junior Survey Crew Chief, leading and overseeing the crew when the Survey Crew Chief is not available. The Survey Field Technician III is responsible for performing various duties on a survey crew including assistance with a variety of field operations and operating a variety of instruments. The role requires completing assigned tasks while complying with established field procedures, using proper safety equipment, and following proper field safety procedures. The technician will assume responsibility for the safety and care of the crew, vehicles, equipment, and the public's interest. If assigned to a company vehicle, the technician is responsible for proper vehicle maintenance, including performing preventative maintenance and maintaining the interior in a neat and orderly fashion. The position involves walking for long periods of time through all kinds of terrain, uneven ground, and sometimes water. On occasion, overnight travel may be required.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent.
3 years’ experience in survey field operations and proficiency with land survey equipment.
Previous experience working outdoors, standing, and walking for long periods of time in all weather conditions and terrain.
The ability to work alone but also effectively as part of a team.
Strong problem-solving, functional, and technical skills.
Excellent communication skills, and the ability to take and understand directives.
Proficiency with total stations, GPS equipment, and leveling.
The ability to complete work consistently, with moderate flexibility to accommodate varying project demands.
A valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle and criminal record as determined by McKim & Creed.
Pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

Assume responsibility for the safety and care of the crew, vehicles, equipment, and the public's interest.
Ensure proper vehicle maintenance if assigned to a company vehicle to include performing preventative maintenance (checking fluid levels, tire pressure, etc.) on a consistent basis, and maintaining the interior of the vehicle in a neat and orderly fashion.
