About The Position

At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields. The Survey Equipment Manager is responsible for managing and maintaining the survey and machine control equipment that supports our field operations. This role ensures our survey crews and construction teams have reliable, accurate, and properly functioning equipment to support layout, data collection, and machine control on projects. The Survey Equipment Manager also serves as a technical resource to field personnel by troubleshooting equipment issues, coordinating repairs, and helping maximize the use of survey technology across the organization. This position is based in Nashville, TN or Charlotte, NC but may require travel to other project locations as needed.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience in construction surveying, survey equipment management, machine control, or a related field, preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of survey equipment including GPS/GNSS systems, total stations, data collectors, and machine control technology
  • Experience performing equipment calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and software updates
  • Familiarity with survey software, machine control systems, and data management platforms
  • Experience working with manufacturers such as Leica, Topcon, Trimble, or similar equipment providers is preferred
  • Strong organizational and inventory management skills
  • Technical troubleshooting and problem-solving
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Time management and the ability to prioritize competing requests
  • Communication and customer service
  • Ability to train and support field personnel
  • Proficiency with survey equipment, software, and machine control technologies
  • Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases).
  • Willingness to travel 100% of the time, as needed.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces.
  • Must be at least 18 years old to meet job-site safety and labor requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain the company's inventory of survey and machine control equipment, including GPS/GNSS systems, total stations, data collectors, machine control hardware, and related technology
  • Coordinate equipment check-in, check-out, transportation, and deployment to ensure field crews have the equipment they need when they need it
  • Perform or coordinate routine maintenance, calibration, firmware updates, and repairs to keep equipment operating accurately and reliably
  • Maintain detailed records of equipment inventory, maintenance history, calibration schedules, and usage
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and machine control issues while providing technical support to survey crews and field personnel
  • Train employees on the proper operation, care, transportation, and storage of survey equipment and machine control technology
  • Partner with Survey Field Managers, Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams to anticipate equipment needs and support project success
  • Coordinate with equipment manufacturers, vendors, and service providers regarding repairs, warranties, software updates, and technical support
  • Evaluate new survey technology, equipment, and software while providing recommendations for future purchases and upgrades
  • Help establish and maintain standards for survey equipment, machine control systems, and technology utilization across the organization
  • Ensure equipment is stored, transported, and operated safely while maintaining compliance with company policies and manufacturer recommendations
