About The Position

The Survey Engineer supports field surveyors, engineering teams, and equipment/machine operators by preparing accurate technical drawings and plans using computer-aided design (CAD) software. This role involves converting field data and survey notes into detailed maps and construction drawings while ensuring precision and compliance with industry standards. This position is based in Nashville, TN, or Charlotte, NC, but may require travel to other project locations as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required
  • 2 years of surveying experience in the field, required
  • Experience with CAD software such as AutoCAD or Carlson Civil
  • Basic understanding of surveying principles and mapping techniques
  • Willingness to learn and take direction
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Time management and handling multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Auto CAD
  • Mathematical and spatial reasoning
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces
  • Must be at least 18 years old to meet job-site safety and labor requirements

Nice To Haves

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, surveying technology/land surveying, construction management, or a related field, preferred
  • 2+ years in a heavy/civil construction setting, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Draft and update survey drawings based on project and construction plans
  • Process field data and incorporate it into CAD files
  • Maintain and organize relevant survey and engineering project files and documentation
  • Work closely and collaborate with field surveyors, engineers, and project managers to build survey/machine control files, document quantities, attend project-related meetings, and support operations/production needs
  • Perform quality checks of maps, files, and as-builts to ensure accuracy and consistency
  • Promote and support adherence to safety, quality, and company standards
  • Utilize and support surveying technologies, including GPS, total stations, and 3D models
