About The Position

The Center for Population Health Data Science (CPHDS) was launched in October 2023 to modernize data practices and improve public health, healthcare, and social service linkages for timely and effective public action. The goal is to make data more accessible, timely, equitable, usable, and protected, ultimately strengthening agency-wide data capabilities through workforce empowerment, enhanced data sharing, and modern technology. The Bureau of Epidemiology Services (BES) monitors and improves New Yorker's health by collecting, analyzing, and communicating data. Within BES, the Surveys and Data Analysis Unit (SDAU) manages data collection, processing, and analysis for citywide population surveys, including the Community Health Survey and the NYC Health Panel. SDAU is seeking a survey data analyst to support data operations, management, cleaning, and analysis for data collected by the unit, with a primary focus on the NYC Health Panel.

Requirements

  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university
  • A minimum of two years of responsible full-time research or data management experience in the appropriate field of specialization
  • Experience in data cleaning, and management
  • At least one year of experience creating and maintaining SQL databases
  • Experienced using R, SAS, and/or SQL

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with health survey development or survey administration
  • Fluency in statistical packages such as SAS and SUDAAN
  • Skills in SQL database design and maintenance, as well as Microsoft Access for front-end interaction with the database
  • Experience with applied data analysis and data management
  • Familiarity with survey implementation processes
  • Experience developing protocols for data-related processes
  • Attention to detail
  • Demonstrated commitment to health equity and reduction of health disparities
  • Willingness to check others’ analyses and have their analyses checked by others
  • Collaboration skills, including ability to work with stakeholders from multiple parts of an organization to support their needs
  • Able to interact professionally with people from diverse cultural, racial, ethnic, gender, and socioeconomic backgrounds

Responsibilities

  • Creating datasets from raw survey data including merging, cleaning datasets and variables, that include recodes, labels, and formats
  • Creating analytic and final datasets, codebooks, and other supporting documentation
  • Using SAS and SQL to create and maintain survey implementation datasets, including invitation distribution lists, incentive lists, processing withdrawals, geocoding revised contact information, etc
  • Assisting with requests for data analysis, data checking, or other related support as needed
